The reason I’m writing this at 1 in the morning is because I got home at 12 in the morning from the meet. My race was at 9 pm under the lights and I have to say, it’s quite an experience. It was cold as heck, but I actually really liked it. I was put in the 12 minute-ish heat for the 2 mile and while, I didn’t get a T-shirt (top 3 in each heat get a shirt) I did break 12 minutes which is pretty awesome and is a 30-40 second improvement from cross country (even though in cross country, it’s not on a track and there are hills and stuff). It felt good although, personally I didn’t really go all out. I did kick at the end, but I was trying to have some faith in pacing. I didn’t go over 80 and stuck to about 85-90 seconds. I probably have the potential to get 11:30 or 11:40 if I really went all out, but that’s okay. This was my first real race and it’s still the beginning of the season so I have plenty of time.
Overall, it was a great opening for the season. The rest of the team did awesome and I’m very proud of them and I thank my coaches for pushing me and being awesome coaches.
I also don’t think I’m going to take the day off. I talked to my coach and he said that if nothing hurts, don’t take a day off. Just take the weekend nice and easy so I can keep my streak. I mean why not right? My shins didn’t really hurt at all today so I think I will just keep the streak going and take the days off when I’m in some real pain or something.
